FIELD EXPERIENCE:

Extensive field work throughout Japan, especially the southern Islands, Nansei Islands, 1980-1984, and northern island of Hokkaido, since 1985; overseas collecting expeditions include the following: International Kuril Islands Project (IKIP: http://artedi.fish.washington.edu/ikip/home.html): biotic survey and inventory of the Kuril Islands, Russia, 1995-1997; Histeridae of New Zealand: Summer, 1995 and 1998; Beetles of Taiwan: Summer, 1980, 1986 and 1990.

PUBLICATIONS:

Since 1986, 60 scientific papers, plus 27 popular and semipolular articles and 3 books, on the systematics, functional morphology, distribution, zoogeography, and behavior of insects, with emphasis on coleopterans of the family Histeridae.

SUBJECT:

Systematics of the family Histeridae (Insecta, Coleoptera). All known taxon of the Histeridae is now 332 genera, 75 subgenera, 3793 species and 48 subspecies (Mazur, 1997). In Japan, 114 species (Ohara, 1996-1998) occur.
