Genus Sternoglyphus Desbordes, 1916

Sternoglyphus Desbordes, 1916: 476 [Type species: Sternoglyphus decorsei Desbordes, 1916: 476, designated by Bickhardt, 1921: 174]; Bickhardt, 1917: xx.

Notes (Mazur & Ohara, 2000a).

The genus Sternoglyphus is represented by two species, decorsei and metallipennis, and easily distinguished from the other genera of the tribe Platysomatini by the following combinations of character-states: cylindrical body shape; presence of transverse stria along basal margin of elytron; one lateral prosternal stria; carinal striae of prosternum present; post-mesocoxal stria absent; parameres of male genitalia not united on dorsal surface apically; median lobe of aedeagus thick and having apical projection.

According to the structure of aedeagus of the male genitalia, the genus is probably a member of the tribe Histerini. Sternoglyphus should be move to the tribe Histerini, but the systematic position is not clear.
