Genus Macrosternus Marseul, 1853

Macrosternus Marseul, 1853: 239 [Type species: Macrosternus lafertei Marseul, 1853]; Bickhardt, 1917: 135.

Notes (Mazur &Ohara, 2000).

The genus Macrosternus is only represented by lafertei and easily distinguished from the other genera of the tribe by the following combinations of characterstates: body depressed and black with blue metallic luster; frontal stria of head complete laterally, the lateral end attained anterior margin, on anterior portion the stria absent; internal subhumeral stria complete; two lateral prosternal striae; carinal stria of prosternal process present; antero-lateral projection of 9th tergite of male genitalia absent; paramera of male genitalia not separated in apical area.

The peculiar structure of the male genital segments (Fig. ) are well shown that the genus is not allied other members of the tribe Platysomatini.

Macrosternus should be moved to the tribe Exosternini and the place is a next of the genus Anaglyma.

Distribution (Fig. ). Tropical Africa (Senegal, Congo, Camerun).
