Asiaster Cooman, 1948, 123 [Type species: Asiaster calcator Cooman, 1948].

Taiwanese (Ohara, 1999).

The genus Asiaster Cooman consists of three species; Asiaster calcator, Asiaster pilisternus Cooman, 1948 and Asiaster vestitus (Lewis, 1891). The genus differs from the other genera of the tribe Histerinae by the presence of hairs on the intercoxal disks of the pro-, meso- and metasterna and the structure of protibia with many denticles on the ventral surface. Asiaster may be allied to the genus Atholus on the basis of similarity in the structure of mesosternum, as Cooman (1948) already mentioned. The distribution area of these species are restricted to Southeast AsiAsiaster Asiaster calcator has been the only known species of the genus from Taiwan. In this study, Asiaster calcator is redescribed and its important features are illustrated; especially its genitalia are figured for the first time.
